Red LacekkkCasey Page I am covered with red lace Got dirt and grime all over my face I'm so ashamed for You to see me now But I need You here with me, somehow I am covered with thick skin Like iron walls, it's hard to get in I'm so afraid for You to see underneath I'm afraid for You to see the real me Oh, this Red Lace Keepin' me so ashamed Oh, this Red Lace It's keepin' me down, it's keepin' me down! If I let my guard down, Are You the kind of friend who'll stick around? Or just when I bear my soul, Will you decide it's time to get up and go Oh, this Red Lace Keepin' me so ashamed Oh, this Red Lace It's keepin' me down, it's keepin' me down! This red lace is paralyzing me Like a noose around my neck, I need to break free I guess I'll try to let You in Otherwise I might die in my sin But You gotta help me out I wanna get rid of this lace, but I don't know how I can't imagine how it will be To get this old red lace off of me! Oh, this Red Lace I'm tired of being so ashamed Oh, this Red Lace It aint keepin' me down, it aint' keepin me down no more! Copyright 2005 Casey Page |
Commentary: This song is all about the prodigal son...a child who is covered with "red lace," symbolizing sin and death. But the child decides that it's worth taking a chance on Jesus and that just maybe He won't disappoint. So the child surrenders to Him and discovers that it is truly possible through His strength and salvation to throw off that Red Lace and declare, "It aint keepin' me down, it aint keepin' me down no more!" |
