Hi, I’m Casey…

Music feeds my soul. And, I’m guessing it does that for you, too. Since you’re here.

I started singing early…my parents were both singers and my dad was a folk musician, so I didn’t really have any other option but to be musical. When I was fourteen, I started writing songs. Dad told me that the great artists wrote their own songs, and of course, that’s what I wanted to be. So I started writing.

The songs that naturally arose from me were folk ballads and story songs. Some were fierce and fiery, others were plaintive and delicate. The lyrics expressed hopeful yearning, spiritual awakening, and the discovery of what it’s like to be human.

Writing a song…

the act of finding the melody and lyrics, seemingly out of nowhere…

that became the greatest thrill of my life.

And it still is.

My life has taken a lot of winding turns. I released my first CD when I was sixteen and booked myself at over a hundred events from North Carolina to Texas. In my late teens, I moved to Nashville to pursue music, only to turn around and go back to Kentucky two years later, tail between my legs. In my twenties, I tried to find a “dependable” lifestyle and became a high school English teacher. It lasted a year.

Throughout this whole time, I was deeply committed to my spiritual journey and hungry to learn more about God. So, I went to seminary…basically grad school for pastors. Creating music, creating space for people to connect with God, creating community…I found that these were all connected for me. During these years, I was able to travel to India and Uganda, connecting with young people cross-culturally through music.

Music is the language that doesn’t need translation.

In my most recent years, I’ve been learning to listen and hold space for people as a pastor of worship and spiritual formation. I curate the space of worship for my church and create opportunities for people to practice their spirituality and grow in their faith.

It’s been over twenty years, and I’m still writing folk ballads and story songs. I’m still exploring my humanity through weaving lyrics together with melodies.

In the past year, I’ve started to share my songs again after a long hiatus. I’m excited to introduce songs from my early days and to unveil new ones, straight from this current season of my life.
